Eragon

Eragon

Eragon, is the first book in the Inheritance Cycle 4-Book Hard Cover Boxed Set (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance)series of 4 books written by Christopher Paolini. He started writing this book at the age of 14, extraordinary, for someone so young to have wrote something that would later turn into a series of 4 books and later into an awesome, must see movie. My son has read the books and watched the movie several times and he has never tired of them. He was looking over my shoulder as I wrote this post, he said, “To make sure I got it right”. I was able to get him to leave me alone by telling him he could proofread it before I published it…haha…cute, but also, it should convince you of how great these books and the movie are.

Eragon the first book.

It starts out with a prologue, that describes how a blue stone comes to be where Eragon finds it. He takes the stone home where he lives with his Uncle and cousin and few days later he watches while a baby dragon is hatched. He names the dragon, Saphira and raises her in secret until King, Galbatorix, servants come looking for the egg.

Eragon [ERAGON] [Hardcover] and Saphira narrowly escape, but his Uncle is killed and the house and farm are burnt to the ground. Eragon then seeks vengeance for his uncle, and is accompanied by Brom, who insist on helping Eragon and Saphira. Through the special bond that Eragon and Saphira have, Eragon becomes a dragon rider. King Galbatorix is the only known dragon rider and wants Saphira and Eragon dead. Brom gives Eragon the sword of Zar’roc and teaches him sword fighting, magic and the ancient language and ways of the dragon rider.

When they come to the city of Teirm, Eragon’s fortune is told by a witch and he is given some mysterious advice by her companion. Their camp is ambushed and they are rescued by a stranger named Murtagh. Brom is injured and before he dies, reveals to Eragon that he was once a dragon rider. His dragon, whose name was also Saphira, was slain by an evil dragon rider named Morzan, whom Brom killed.

Murtagh then starts traveling with him and Saphira. While Eragon is imprisoned in a jail, he realizes a woman, who he has been having dreams about, is also imprisoned. After he breaks out, him and Saphira rescue the unconscious woman, who is an elf, but a fight ensues and Murtagh shoots Durza, a Shade, between the eyes with an arrow and he dissipates into a mist.

Eragon is able to make contact with the unconscious elf telepathically and finds out her name is Arya, the elf who put Saphira’s egg in the forest. Arya has been poisoned while imprisoned and needs a potion that only the Varden has within four days or she will die. They go in search of the Varden using directions she gives and notice that Urgals are following them. They are much larger than normal and are called Kull. Murtagh reveals that he is the son of Morzan, the evil dragon rider that Brom killed.

Outside of Varden the Kull catch up with Eragon but are driven off with the Vardens help. He is able to administer the potion to Arya and she is healed. The Varden escort them to Farthen Dur where he meets the Vardens leader, Ajihad. He reveals to Eragon that Durza was not killed and there is only one way to do so, by shooting him straight through the heart. When Murtagh refuses to let the Varden read his mind, to find out if he means them harm, he is imprisoned. Orik, nephew of the dwarf King, becomes their guide. Murtagh is tested by two magicians and Arya.

After coming to a place to stay a battle begins and the dwarfs and the Varden fight an army of Urgals who were sent by King Galbatorix and Durza. Durza injures Eragon and just when he is about to be captured Saphira and Arya break a star sapphire, Isidar Mithrim, on the ceiling, distracting him long enough for Eragon to stab him through the heart with his sword, Zar’roc. When Durza dies the Urgals begin fighting amongst themselves, after being released from a spell placed on them by Durza. The Varden and dwarfs are able to force the Urgals back.

Eragon being injured falls into unconsciousness and is contacted telepathically by….well you are just going to have to get the book to see how it ends! I know, how mean is that, but I just can’t see ruining it for people who have the book and haven’t finished it yet. It’s kind of like watching a movie and having someone sitting there telling you everything that is going to happen…I hate that…haha!

That is just the first book, and of course this small report doesn’t give anywhere near the full story. The next book in the series is called Eldest (Inheritance Cycle, Book 2) (The Inheritance Cycle) and is another entrancing book that can’t be put down. My son had not read the third book, Brisingr (The Inheritance Cycle) by the time we seen the movie Eragon (Full Screen Edition), but he read it anyway, because he said the books give you so much more than a movie ever can. The amazing thing is, my son, isn’t much of a bookworm so when I see him with a book I know it’s got to be good.

He has now read the fourth book, Inheritance (Inheritance Cycle, Book 4) and says it is also just as awesome as the rest. He received the whole series of books for Christmas and has just told me he wishes he’d had Eragon’s Guide to Alagaesia (The Inheritance Cycle)while he had been reading the books and to make sure I included the link for it for my readers.

I hope you all will enjoy these books about a beautiful dragon named, Saphira, and her young dragon rider, Eragon, as much as my son has. I have watched the movie and I have to say Saphira will grab your heart. I don’t know why I love dragons so much but I do know this, I don’t think anybody loves them as much as I do.
